Rufus Wainwright ran into some serious label problems right after the release of his stunning 2003 effort Want One (the album that headed my last year’s top 10 list). Sadly, despite the tremendous critical acclaim for “Want One”, the release of the follow-up “Want Two” was put on hold indefinitely.
However, Rufus fans will be happy to see that he has released four of the tracks from “Want Two” on iTunes. He sums up the collection of recordings that will ultimately comprise Want Two as “some of the more daunting tracks, the operatic, weird stuff, some heavy numbers that relate to my classical sensibilities”.
