Lately I’ve been using almost all of my free time working with MoveOn.org on the upcoming election. Last night I headed to the R.E.M/Bruce Springsteen concert in Detroit to sign-up volunteers. My plan had been to just hang out in the area during the show and to go back to work after the show was over, because of the cost, I had never really considered attending the show, but of the folks I was recruiting had an extra ticket and gave it to me!
The last time I saw Bruce Springsteen was more than 25 years ago back when I was 17. My memory of that night is still clear and it was one of the most amazing concerts I have ever been to. Flash forward a quarter century and Mr. Springsteen has lost none of his spirit and drive. Last night’s show was phenominal, and by the end of the set, Michael Stipe (of R.E.M.) was on stage for “Because The Night”, followed by a series of encores with John Fogerty and the Dixie Chicks singing along as well.
The concert last night was one of six shows across Michigan organized by America Coming Together (ACT), part of a tour that has been sweeping through battle ground states, blanketing the state with top notch artists like Dave Matthews, Pearl Jam, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp as well as R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen.
