This past weekend, the kids and I headed down to Bloomington, Indiana to spend time with our friend, former Chicago White Sox catcher, Marv Foley. The kids love hanging out with their Uncle Marv, and he delighted them with tales of playing at Yankee Stadium (“I do believe they built that short porch for me” Marv told the kids), as well as just making them laugh. Sasha taught Uncle Marv how to use the cell phone he’s had for 2 years and showed him how to delete the 1,218 multimedia messages on his phone.

The highlight of the trip was a Saturday night pilgrimage to IU’s Assembly Hall to watch the 13th ranked Hoosiers hog tie hapless Western Carolina, 100 to 52. For many years I was a hard-core Hoosiers basketball fan, in fact, when I left Bloomington for California 20 years ago, I used to get the Bloomington daily paper delivered by mail just so I could read the sports section. Oh those days before the Interweb.

The Hoosiers are a joy to watch this year with a level of athleticism that has been sorely lacking for years. Freshman stud Eric Gordon dominated the game, hitting his first five 3-pointers and scoring 26 for the game. Add in senior D.J. White, and the other freshman stud, Jordan Crawford, and it looks like this team will go far.
