Okay, you boys out there are going to think I’m a wimpy feminist because of this rant against cleavage on TV. I’m not wimpy, but I am a feminist and I’m irritated.
The show that’s irking me is the new and mostly sweet show “Pushing Daisies”, with its stylized and unique (for TV) plot line about a pie maker who has the gift of bringing people back to life with a touch of his finger and re-death with the next touch. This show has a lot going for it, the story line is different, visually it’s a cross between Edward Sissorhands and The Royal Tennenbaums, and perhaps most interesting, it’s a love story between two people who can never touch.
With so much going for it, why does this show need to sink to having both (young, beautiful and smart) female leads show cleavage in nearly ever shot? Pushing Daisies is so visually interesting that there’s no need to try to get viewers attention with stunts like forcing co-star Kristen Chenowith to always wear bosom exposing uniforms.
As the parent of two teens, a show like this is doing a great disservice. I’m trying to raise a 13-year-old boy to not objectify woman, while also raising a 16-year-old daughter so that she feels no need to use her body to get ahead in life.
Enough with the cleavage.
