A few weeks ago, Jeremy and I decided to end the summer by heading down to Cincinnati and catching one last Mets game and so we bought a couple of tickets to see the Mets on September 3rd. All we were expecting to see was our beloved Mets play a game, no more, no less. Fast forward a few weeks and Pedro Martinez is making an amazing recovery, 11 months after rotator cuff surgery. By Saturday Sept 1st, they schedule Pedro to make his return on Monday – we’re going to see Pedro’s comeback!.
Sunday night and Mets fans are gearing up for Pedro’s return and then we get reminded that Pedro ended last season two strikeouts shy of 3000! Now not only we going to see Pedro’s return, we’re going to see history!
Jeremy’s god father, Marv Foley drove over from Bloomington, IN, and the three of us watched Pedro, not the fireballer of his youth, but now the wily vet, get a W and strikeout #3000 in the 3rd inning. The Mets went on to spank the Reds 10-4, with Delgado, Wright and Alou going yard. Great day, a memory we’ll keep a lifetime.
