Marv Foley was teasing me about my declaration that the Mets have never had a win of career significance, no player for the Mets has been with the team when they achieved hit number 3000, home run number 500, strike out number 3000, but now Mets fans have gotten the chance to savor a 300th career victory.
Last night Glavine did what he’s been doing for so long, won a game with brilliant but not over-powering pitching. He had only one strikeout for the night, but Glavine kept the Cubs at bay with a mere six hits and two runs. The Mets battery provided the firepower missing in Glavine’s last near-win, this time delivering 16 hits and eight runs. It was a great nice to be a Mets fan.
