Game 7 of the NLCS last fall broke my heart. Not because Carlos Betran’s called 3rd strike ended the Mets season and hopes for another World Series. It broke my heart because it crushed Jeremy. You see, we had tickets to game three of a Mets World Series game. The plan was to hop in the car with Jeremy, Marv Foley and I, spend an insane two day trip driving the 600 miles to Gotham, catch a game, and then head back to Michigan. But that plan ended suddenly and Jeremy was crushed. Yes, I was sad, but to see my boy standing there sobbing killed me. I had 1969 and 1986 in the memory books, but this was as far as Jeremy had got as a Mets fan. The epic trip to New York for a World Series game was no more.

But Hope springs eternal and now it’s time for another amazing year with the 2007 Mets.

Last night, opening night, saw game 8 of the NLCS, only this time the Mets came up big. Here we are: day 2 of the baseball season and The Metropolitans are undefeated and in first place. Glavine is one game closer to 300 (291 and counting) and the Mets looked great on the mound, in the field and at the plate.
