A few weeks ago I mentioned that Bob Edwards was leaving NPR’s Morning Edition. What I didn’t know at the time was that Edwards was being fired rather than leaving. What’s truly sad about this turn of events is that I have always thought that NPR held itself to a higher standard than other members of the broadcast medium.r

Apparantly, Edwards is being fired because NPR wants to go with a more breaking news version of the flagship morning show. What I don’t understand is why the format cannot be tweaked while still keeping the immensely popular Edwards who has been with the show since its inception almost 25 years ago. r

The Save Bob website is attempting to rally support for keeping Edwards, something I am hoping for but doubt will happen. The folks at Save Bob have put together a petition with the hope of getting 25,000 signatures. As I write this, the total is 21,273, so get out there and sign up.
