Back!
It has been waaaaay too long since I’ve posted stuff here. Unlike my pal Cameron Barrett who hasn’t updated his weblog because he has been off working on the Clark for President campaign, I have no such excuse. The long and short of it is that I’ve been busy getting to know someone and, well, other than the kids, work and SLN, I just haven’t been accomplishing much in the past few months in terms of writing, here or other places.

imageJust around the time I stopped posting, an old friend of mine died and I’ve felt a pressing need to put up something here on Daddyo about my pal Tom Donohue.
Tom was such a gentle man who died way too soon, and honestly, it’s been bothering me that I’ve never put up even a small tribute to a man who spent his life at the center of the Bloomington, Indiana music scene.

Tom’s life was dedicated to opening musical doors for all of those who shopped at the record stores he owned and worked at. I last saw Tom in July during a trip back to Bloomington, and although it had been 15 years since I had lived in Bloomington, as soon as he saw me, Tommy said, “Hey Scrappy, you have to hear this Alejandro Escovedo album…” He knew I’d love it and of course, I did.

Rather than go on and on about Tommy, perhaps I’ll just link to a few stories about him.

Before I close out this post though, I want to put out a quote that Chris Huffman posted about Tom on his weblog

“He was a seminal figure in Bloomington. And TD’s was a seminal place for me. A place I frequented like shelter in the rain. It meant more to me than I can really put into words. Certainly more than Tom ever knew.”

Read Tom’s obituary.

Check out this wonderful story on Tom’s life (written shortly before his death) from the IU student newspaper, the Indiana Daily Student.
