Last night we had some amazing weather here in Ann Arbor. As a cold front swept through, winds were clocked at 74 MPH in the area. Guess there are no more leaves left from a very beautiful and long-lasting autumn show of color. r

When I was a kid who lived only to play my saxophone, tenor and flute player Charles Lloyd was one of my biggest influences. I spent many hours going over his albums soaking up his style which was in great contrast to my other main influences, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane. Lloyd’s sound was gentle, lyrical and very mystical. By the time I had discovered Lloyd back in the 70’s, he had long since disappeared into a self-imposed exile.r

Tonight I’m excited to be seeing Lloyd’s quintet (featuring another musical hero from my teens, John Abercrombie) as they to Ann Arbor. I’ll try to post a review of sorts in the coming days.r
