I think that most parents of growing children will agree that kids movies that adults really enjoy are few and far between. There are films like Toy Story, Shrek or A Bugs Life that are filled with enough grown-up humor to keep us adults happy, but I can’t remember the last time I saw a movie I really liked that also happened to be made for kids.

My son Jeremy and I went to see the new Disney film Holes and I’d have to say that Holes is my favorite film of the year so far. Too often films that are made for children, while often entertaining and well made, usually lack the kind of complexity that makes Holes such a joy to watch. The plot is filled with twists and turns that will make you say “oh, NOW I get it” throughout the latter half of the film.

So if you’ve got kids, by all means go see this wonderful film. And even if you don’t have kids, go see Holes.
